About

Tina Varughese.

Keynote speaker, author, and one of Canada’s most in-demand voices on diversity, belonging, and cross-cultural communication.

Tina Varughese is a Canadian keynote speaker on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB), cross-cultural communication, and workplace culture. Based in Calgary, Alberta, she has spoken to organizations across North America — from Hockey Canada and healthcare systems to HR conferences and incentive travel events. She is the author of 50 Shades of Beige: Building Bridges While Breaking Bias, which is also the title of her most-booked keynote.

Tina’s approach is what event organizers describe as “electrifying.” She combines humour, personal storytelling, and research-backed strategy to make complex cultural conversations feel welcome rather than confrontational. Her keynotes consistently rank among the highest-rated at the conferences she speaks at — including the HR and Leadership Conference, where 50 Shades of Beige was the highest-rated talk of the year.

The work

As an Indian-Canadian who grew up navigating cultural identity, Tina brings first-person experience to questions most speakers only theorize about. Her work with Hockey Canada — where she trained more than 400 players and staff on confronting racism — was featured in the Toronto Star. She has keynoted for the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) in Tulum, Mexico, and delivered training for healthcare, financial services, real estate, government, and sales organizations.

Her keynotes cover four core areas: cross-cultural communication, inclusive leadership, selling across cultures, and recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce. Every talk is adapted to the audience’s industry and specific challenges — because a sales team navigating a multicultural client base needs different tools than an HR leader onboarding foreign workers.

The approach

What makes Tina’s keynotes different isn’t just the content — it’s how she delivers it. DEI content has a reputation for putting audiences on the defensive. Tina’s doesn’t. She uses humour and story to open doors that lectures close. Leaders leave her talks with specific, practical strategies they can use Monday morning — not just good intentions.

“Her energy, humour and knowledge continue to resonate with us. I’ve reflected on her insights and seek to be curious in conversations, knowing everyone has a story we can learn from.” — Leadership Team Member, post-event feedback
